Shops ‘raided’ by Greenpeace activists

BANGALORE: Shops and establishments on Church Street and Brigade Road witnessed raids of a different kind on Wednesday. Greenpeace activists and students subjected these establishments to “energy raids” in order to asses the energy efficiency and spread awareness about the threat of climate change and its affect on the monsoon Greenpeace spearheaded its campaign against climate change through the launch of a report, “Monsoon Wager: Climate Change and the Indian Monsoon”, in Mumbai on June 4.

The report talks about how the impact of climate change on the monsoon is especially relevant to a country like India which is greatly dependent on the monsoons. Brikesh Singh of Greenpeace said: “An ambitious renewable energy law is an important step India needs to take in order to be able to tackle climate change.” He feels renewable energy should become the primary source of power.He said Greenpeace intends to interact with various people across the city to communicate the urgency of this issue.
