The global climate — biological, geological, chemical processes and natural ecosystems — are closely linked with one another and changes in any one of them may result in harmful consequences to human and other organism on earth,” said GK Mohanty, Director, Meteorological Centre, Ranchi.

Mohanty said this on the occasion of World Weather Day on Monday. The theme for the occasion was; 'Weather climate and the air we breathe.'

We are developing many technologies to make common people aware of the weather forecast and also about coming natural disaster, Mohanty added.

Informing about the method to know temperature RK Mahto, Scientific Assistant said that climate parameters such as temperature, precipitation, atmospheric pressure, duration of sunshine, wind, humidity, cloudiness, weather phenomena marks the change the weather.

An exhibition was also organised in which last year's minimum and maximum temperature and rainfall chart, radiation recording instrument and such others were displayed. The information about the Antarctica meteorology was also provided to the visitors.

Natural and human induced are the two key factors that bring in climatic change. Natural causes includes shift in earth's orbit and tilt, relative position of its axis, change in solar activity, volcanic eruptions, changes in distribution of atmospheric aerosols and such others. An increase in the amounts of greenhouse gases such as Carbon dioxide, Methane, Nitrous oxide and chlorofluorocarbons make changes in the chemical composition of the atmosphere and affect the global climate.

JS Jojo, Assistant Meteorologist said that the first Indian Meteorological Department was set up in 1875 at Kolkata.
