Pollution spreading to rural areas

Pollution which is detrimental to the human existence is now spreading to rural areas. Non-Governmental Organisations should create awareness about this among the rural people, expressed Bairakuru Gram Panchayat President Subhadramma.

Speaking was after inaugurating the ‘National Environment Awareness Campaign, 2008-09’, at Nehru Kenady PU College Auditorium at Bairakuru village on Sunday. The Campaign was jointly organised by Union Ministry of Environment and Forests, State Science Council and by a NGO, Chetana.

She regretted that the culture of using plastic and bottle water was now spreading to the villages polluting the environment.

Principal D Srinivasulu lamented that the growth of science had decreased awareness about the environment.

Gram Panchayat Vice-President P N Lakshmanachari presided over the meet. Lecturer T Ramakrishna Reddy and B R Nagaraj were the other dignitaries.

Chetana’s Resource Person V Narayanappa presented a paper on Climate Change, Environmental Conservation and other issues. Secretary of Chetana V N Prabhavati, teacher Mamta, Nagaraj and others took part.
