WASHINGTON: President Barack Obama would support climate change legislation this year or next if it contained provisions he backed, the White House said on Monday.

"I think the president would say if we had significant legislation that began to address climate change and allowed us to spend even more money investing in alternative energies to ensure that we weren't adding to the amount of greenhouse gasses in our atmosphere, whether that's this year or next year I think both of us would agree that that's a big change that we would welcome," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said.
