GANDHINAGAR: Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi announced that a new department will be created to address the issues of climate change and global warming.

Gujarat will be the fourth province in the world to create a special department for global warming and climate change, Modi told state assembly.

The department, which will function directly under him, will prepare a comprehensive policy on issues related to climate change and global warming, he said.

The department will co-ordinate with all other related departments in the government and will carry out a range of studies to assess the impact of climate change and global warming on coastal regions of the state.

The state will promote maximum use of green technology and the new department will function as nodal agency for that, the chief minister said, adding that a revolving fund will be created for promotion and research on green technology.

Gujarat enjoys 30 per cent market share in the Clean Development Market (CDM), Modi said.
