Interference with nature responsible for climate change: Rajendra Singh

Interference with the usual laws of nature were the main reason for climate change," said Water Man of Rajasthan Rajendra Singh at a function on Thursday.

The Cell for Awareness and Research in Environment Law Studies (CARES) of the National Law Institute University (NLIU) had organised a National Seminar on "21st Century Challenges in the Protection of Environment" in collaboration with the Environment Planning and Co-ordination Organisation (EPCO), Bhopal at NLIU Campus.

Rajendra Singh, popularly known as the "Water Man of Rajasthan", recipient of the Magsaysay award, was the Guest of Honour and he narrated the story, which made him work for the cause of water in Rajasthan motivating others and emphasising on the fact that any good work with nature can be done by any ordinary man.

Alok Shrivastava, Secretary, Department of Environment and Housing, Govt. of MP, while inaugurating the event elaborated on how humans and nature are related and how we need to develop laws that improve this relationship.

Prof SS Singh, Director, NLIU expressed hope that the seminar would give permanency to the interest of everyone in nature and its conservation, while Prof Rajiv Khare, Faculty In-Charge of CARES, informed the gathering about the objectives and events that were to take place in the two-day seminar.

The National Seminar includes five technical sessions along with a session on Bhopal Declaration on challenges in protection of environment.

Out of which two sessions took place on Thursday, which were on "Legislative Framework and Challenges Ahead" and "Pollution Control and Executive Endeavours".
