Industries should make green policies: GPCB

AHMEDABAD: Environment damaged due to global warming can be restored only if industrial units divert part of their profits for conservation.

This was the plea made by Sanjiv Tyagi, member secretary of Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) to industries while delivering a keynote address at a workshop organised by Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday.

"So far we have never cared to protect coastal areas, marine life and mangroves. It is necessary for industries to come forward and contribute," said Tyagi at the workshop Climate change and sustainability.

He said, sustainable development does not mean no damage to environment as that is inevitable. Damage does occur when development schemes and projects are executed.

Stressing on the need to regulate this damage Tyagi said industries should internalise environment in their practices and polices and a environment management cell should be set up. Asking industries to make green polices he asked them to see how these can least damage the environment.
