One sent to jail for poaching sambars

One poacher was nabbed by the officials of the Terai (East) section of the Dolly Range near Kotkhars jungle along with the carcass of a sambhar.

Dolly Range regional officer RK Srivastava said during night patrol, officials spotted people moving about in plot 18 under suspicious circumstances. When they were asked to stop they dropped the carcass of the animals and fled from the spot.

The forest patrol chased and managed to nab an individual. The carcass was identified as that of a sambhar which the people were taking to Bindukhatta.

The arrested person identified himself as Pushkar Ram, son of Sher Ram, resident of plot number 6 in Bindukhatta. He also confessed of sneaking into the forest along with his friends to hunt sambhars.

He was sent to jail by the forest department after being charged under the relevant sections of the Wildlife Protection Act. The sambhar was buried after a postmortem.
