NEW DELHI: Tyrecord maker SRF Ltd received 1 million carbon credits for reducing greenhouse gas emissions at its refrigerant gas plant in Rajasthan, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change's (UNFCCC) website showed.
The carbon credits have been earned for October-December. UNFCCC seeks to keep greenhouse gases from hitting a level that would interfere with climate.
Industries in developed countries buy carbon credits to meet their environmental obligations under the Kyoto Protocol. Each unit of carbon credit represents one metric tonne reduction in greenhouse gas emission.
SRF, which has been earning carbon credits since 2004, declined to comment on the earnings it expects from the sale of the credits.
