Burning of garbage causes air pollution

ERODE: Most of the places in Erode district are suffering from some kind of pollution problems.

Textile effluents

Erode and surrounding areas and part of Perundurai and Chennimalai villages are affected from textile effluents. Bharathynagar, Chinnasadayampalayam and its surroundings are hit by air pollution.

Various problems

However, Chinnasadayampalayam villagers face a different kind of problem. Kasipalayam Grade III Municipality dumps the garbage collecting from various wards in the dump yard near the village.

Huge quantity of garbage and debris piled up in the yard. These garbage started burning on Friday.

Thick smoke surrounded the houses in Chinnasadayampalayam, Bharathynagar and nearby areas. It continued on Saturday and Sunday.

Dump yard

Residents suffered by air pollution. Worst affected were children.

One resident said his grand daughter, aged eight months, was admitted to the hospital after inhaling the smoke.

The child was now taken to their relative’s house at Sakthinagar, where they were staying for the last two days.

The residents of Bharathynagar and Chinnasadayampalayam said often they were experiencing this problem. They said they have already represented the issue with Kasipalayam Municipal administration.

Fertiliser firms

The officials in the municipality said some persons burning the garbage without their knowledge.

The public pointed out that as there was demand for the garbage from the fertiliser firms, municipality could sell it to those firms.
