LUCKNOW: In view of the United Nation's proclaiming May 22 'The international day for biological diversity' to increase awareness of biodiversity issues, the UP State Bio-diversity Board, Lucknow is organising a conference on 'Bio-diversity and climatic changes' on May 22.

The conference is aimed at providing a platform for experience sharing and brainstorming with the objective of ensuring a more scientific, comprehensive and sustainable strategy for the conservation of bio-diversity to preserve habitats of our wildlife.

According to BK Patnaik, principal chief conservator of forests, UP, "Increasing biotic pressure and consumptive lifestyle are putting enormous strain on our natural resources; therefore it is important to look at bio-diversity-climate change links."

He said that policy-makers, managers, government officers, scientists, NGOs and research scholars in the field of biodiversity had been invited to the conference.

The conference, he said, would focus on the inter-linkages between climate change and bio-diversity conservation. The main themes for contribution of papers/articles are policy approaches in bio-diversity conservation, bio-security and bio-diversity, private-public partnership, IPR and bio-diversity conservation etc. The board said Patnaik also intended to bring out a souvenir on the occasion which would be a compilation of papers contributed by the participants.
