Members of the eco-club of Government High School, Rampur, observed Wetland Day on the school premises here today.

Mr Surinder Pal Singh, and Ms Pal Rani Kaur, science teachers, educated members of the club regarding importance of the day. “The imbalance being faced today is due to man’s selfishness. The noise, water and air pollution created by human beings has landed us in a destructive phase. Concerted efforts are now needed to protect the environment from further depletion,” Ms Pal Rani said.

The Principal of the school, Ms GurdeepKaur, also asked the students to ensure cleanliness in their surroundings and plant more and more saplings to purify the depleting environment. Various contests, including declamation and painting competitions, were organised on the occasion.

The theme of these contests was “Pollution-free environment”. Students actively participated in these contests. In the declamation contest, Amandeep Kaur of class VIII stood first position, while Kulwinder Kaur of class VIII and Jagdeep Kaur of class VI stood second and third. In the painting competition, Amandeep Kaur, Harmeet Singh and Simardeep Kaur were placed first, second and third, respectively.
