BOKAKHAT, Dec 10 – Acting on a tip-off, a team of Forest officials headed by DFO Utpal Borah of Kaziranga National Park arrested three poachers and recovered some arms including cartidges from their possession at Da-Gaon near the park at around 11 pm yesterday. The recovered articles include 8 darts, 10 live cartidges, two single barrel guns. The three culprits are Pradip Das, Bokajan, Rajesh Changmai of Bokajan Tinglijan and Kamala Kanta Das alias Methua of Bokakhat town ward No. 3.

Speaking to the Press at Kohora while displaying the recovered arms and ammunition, the director of Kaziranga National Park disclosed that at present, the poachers are using sophisticated weapons to kill rhinos. Instead of old methods like gunshot, pit/poaching and electrocution. He hoped that a big nexus might be tracked down if equal cooperation be extended from all sides.

It may be mentioned that a good number of such arms were detected at Lotabari near Bokakhat town about a month back.
