Combat wildlife crime: Seminar

Inspector General of Forests (Wildlife), Ministry of Environment & Forests, R.B. Lal said that wild life is extincting due to illegal trade, poaching and habitat destruction. He said this while speaking at a seminar on Combating Wildlife Crime at the Regional Museum of Natural History on Saturday.

He also explained that the Government of India had passed a Wild Life (Protection) Act in 1972 to control the illegal poaching and trade of animals. Government of India formed a National Wild Life Crime Bureau and National Wild Life Action Plan in 2006. He appealed the general public, students, teachers, NGO's to be aware with the harmful effects of wild life crime through environmental education awareness programmes.

During the programme a street play was performed by the team of Gopal Dtibey, Director Bhoomika Natya Group. The aim of this play was to create the awareness among the general visitor, teachers, students on tiger conservation.
