Delhi’s municipal bodies may be staring at a garbage disposal crisis
Correspondent :
With garbage landfills in Delhi and neighbouring areas hosting garbage above their full capacity, municipal corporations in the national capital are staring at a garbage disposal crisis.

The municipality plans to tackle the issue by spreading awareness about the segregation of waste amongst citizens. However, many households are unable to perform the segregation partly due to lack of community awareness.

Even after Delhi’s Ghazipur landfill site collapsed killing two innocent civilians, the East Municipal Delhi Corporation continues to dump waste at the garbage disposal site.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) had also issued a show-cause notice to the Delhi Government over the Ghazipur garbage landfill collapse. An exclusive TIMES NETWORK investigation uncovered a report sent in 2015 to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) by the Delhi Pollution Control Board (DPCC) regarding garbage landfills in Delhi.

The pollution watchdog had categorically stated that all three landfills in the national capital are running without proper permissions and are a risk to human life.
