Gurugram: Emergency situations needs drastic measures and the need of it is now being felt by the district administration of Gurugram to tackle city's deteriorating air quality levels. Oblivious of the scenario for long, the public agencies have finally woken up and are gearing up to tackle the grave environmental challenge that the city faces head on. In a first, there will be over 16 public departments that will be at work to make sure that the residents of Gurugram are not forced to breathe poison this winter. While government agencies like district police, Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), forest division and health will be at the forefront, other divisions have also been roped in by the state government.

These include food and supply, agriculture, Panchyati raj, fire safety and town and country planning departments. The main task of these agencies is expected to create awareness to citizens of harmful effects of pollution and also implement the steps under the graded action system that will come into force under extreme situation of air pollution in Delhi-NCR.

Though there are no plans to implement initiatives like odd-even at the moment, there may be other plans that may be implanted by the state departments in terms of crisis. These measures include hiking the parking fees, prohibiting the passage to heavy vehicles and also closing schools and colleges in terms of crisis. Taking note of the deficiencies in the pollution under control centres it has also been announced that a special cell equipped with tools for testing emission levels of vehicles.
