Jamshedpur, Sept. 30: Immersion of all 308 Durga idols took place without any untoward incident at the 14 river ghats and lakes here today amidst police bandobast.
"Subernarekhaghat at Sakchi witnessed the maximum number of immersions (around 118) followed by Pandey Ghat at Bhuiyandih (30), Domuhanighat at Sonari (22), Kapalighat also in Sonari (16), Dimnaghat at Mango (21), Bodhanwalaghat at Bistupur (16), Sati ghat at Kadma (16), Baroda ghat at Bagbera (14) and 6 each in sub-station ghat at Kadma, Baridihghat at Baridih and Hurlungghat at Birsanagar. Immersions were also held at Citu Talab, Hudco Lake and Bhuiyandihghat," general secretary of Jamshedpur Durga Puja KendriyaSamity Rambabu Singh said.
Before the immersion processions began, Sindurkhela was performed by women at all the major pandals including BeldihKalibari (near Beldih Golf ground, Bistupur), Circuit House and Northern Town pandal (Bistupur), Jamshedpur Sarbojanin puja at Aambagan (Sakchi), Sabuj Sangh (Telco), Amal Sangha (Sidhgora), BiswajitManimela (Bistupur), Tarun Sangha (Sonari) and BaradwariSarbojanin (Bardwari, Sakchi).
Dhalbhum sub-divisional officer Prabhat Kumar said the administration had mobilised magistrates and deployed police to escort the processions to ensure that immersions were completed at the earliest. "Policemen were deployed to ensure that each committee adhered to the stipulated route. Local civic bodies and Jusco have been directed to clean the ghats soon after the immersions. We have also deputed divers and civil defence officials for any emergency. The district civil surgeon has also deputed medical teams at all major ghats along with ambulances," Kumar said.
City SP Prashant Anand said drones were used for surveillance of immersion processions at Sakchi. This apart, two companies of Rapid Action Force were kept at the police control room at Sakchi for any emergency.
Meanwhile, Jusco along with some NGOs kept containers at BodhanwalaGhat and Domuhanighat to dispose off all inorganic Puja gears before immersion of the idols to prevent pollution of water bodies.
Watch towers manned by police and district administration were also constructed at all major ghats.
Power supply in non-Tata Steel Command Areas at Mango, Jugsalai, Birsanagar, Baridih, Shastrinagar and Sonari areas was cut from 11 am by JUVNL Jamshedpur in view of the processions. This is done as a precautionary measure to prevent accidents because of overhead wires that fall on the immersion route.
Heavy vehicles (including long-distance buses) have been barred from entering the city from 9am to 6 am on October 1.
