Second tallest Ganesh idol in Telangana in the making
Correspondent :
Adilabad: The second tallest Ganesh idol, after the one installed in Khairatabad, is going to be erected in Adilabad town during the ensuing Vinayaka Chaturthi slated for August 25. Thota Parameshwar, a brick kiln owner, and some locals will be installing the 45-ft tall idol in Kummaripet of the town by roping in experienced sculptor Ure Ganesh.

Parameshwar told Telangana Today that he had been erecting idols from the past two decades as he was a staunch devotee of Lord Ganesh. He informed that he had installed 41-ft statue of Vinayaka last year. He recollected that the tradition was started by his father, who was also an ardent devotee of the god.

According to the brick kiln owner, the idol is the second tallest in Telangana following the one being erected in Khairatabad, which measures 57 feet. He said that the idol was being prepared by mostly clay, straws of paddy and Plaster of Paris (PoP). “Since clay is eco-friendly, I always prefer it over PoP which is commonly used for molding idols of various gods. Due to rains, the works were stalled several times,” he explained.

A native of Sonala in Boath mandal, the 40-year-old sculptor Ganesh had ventured into this occupation 25 years ago. He won many awards for protecting environment by sticking to clay idols. He is a resident of Chotatalab in Adilabad town.
