Get green Ganesha idols for festival

MYSURU: Join to Help Charitable Trust, under its Mruthyunjaya Scheme, will distribute free eco-friendly Ganesha idols to people.

Trust president Jeevitha Mahendra told reporters here on Monday that their idols are made of seed balls using natural resources. "After immersion, they remain environment-friendly. Medicinal plant seeds are put in the idols," she added.

DC Randeep and officials from the department of ecology and environment will take part in an event that will be held to create awareness on eco-friendly Ganesha festival. At the event planned at the north gate of Mysuru Palace on August 23, the officers will tell people the benefits of using eco-friendly Ganesha idols.

The idols will be distributed free of cost in JP Nagar, Vivekananda Circle, Sri Rampura, Agrahara, RTO Circle, Siddhartha Layout, Vijayanagar II Stage, Kalidasa Road, NR Mohalla and Tilak Nagar, Jeevitha said, requesting people to worship the same.

Rules in Shivamogga

The Shivamogga district administration has urged public and idol makers installing Ganesha idols to follow rules on immersion. All public groups celebrating the festival must complete the immersion programme by 10pm on the decided date and should avoid using sound and mikes.

Officials of the state environment and pollution control board have directed idol makers not to use chemical colours, plaster of Paris for preparing idols. Those violating the directive will invite.
