PimpriChinchwad: The PimpriChinchwad municipal commissioner on Wednesday exhorted Ganesh mandals and citizens to adhere to the guidelines of the Bombay high court and the state environment department to celebrate Ganeshotsav in an eco-friendly manner.

The civic chief, Shravan Hardikar, will hold a meeting with the Ganesh mandals regarding the guidelines at Acharya Atre auditorium in SantTukaramnagar at 5pm on Thursday. It will also be attended by guardian minister Girish Bapat, mayor Nitin Kalje, MP's ShivajiraoAdhalraoPatil, ShrirangBarne, Amar Sable, MLAs LaxmanJagtap, Mahesh Landge, GautamChabukswar, police commissioner Rashmi Shukla, presidents and elected office-bearers of Ganesh mandals.

Hardikar said the festival should be celebrated in an environment-friendly manner without causing water and sound pollution. "Ganesha idols should be made of mud or clay. Only natural colours should be used and Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols should be avoided. Shops selling PoP idols should mark them with red colour for easy identification," the municipal commissioner said.

He added that even the decoration material should be environment friendly. "Use flowers instead of thermocol in the decoration," Hardikar said.

The civic chief also urged the Ganesh mandals to install CCTV cameras at their pandals and avoid using loud speakers beyond the stipulated period.
