PPCB and Army joins hand for 50,000 tree plantation in District Patiala

PATIALA: The Punjab Pollution Control Board has collaborated with Army Authorities in Patiala to plant 50 thousand trees in district Patiala to increase the green cover.

M/s Nahar Group of Industries will assist in the plantation drive and maintenance of trees till their maturity. A meeting was taken by Sh. K.S. Pannu, IAS, Chairman, Punjab Pollution Control Boardwith the Army Authorities and representatives of industry to finalize the plan for plantation of treesin district Patiala. Flower & shade trees like Gulmohar, Shirin, Sukhchain, Neem shall be planted. Also, fruit bearing trees will be planted in selected locations. Forest Department agreed to supply the required plants.

The tree plantation shall be carried out by the Jawans of the Formations & their families. The necessary fertilizer, tree guards and the logistic support will be provided by the Nahar Group of Industries. During the meeting, Sh. Pannu said that the plantation of trees is necessary for the protection of the environment. He stated that maintenance of planted trees shall be ensured. He stressed the need for close coordination among the different departments in identifying the vacant lands and carrying out the plantation.
