Drive to plant native species to take root tomorrow

One lakh neem saplings to be planted across State

An initiative to plant one lakh neem trees to restore the rapidly vanishing green cover is being launched on April 14.

The Hamam Green Puthaandu, being launched by Hindustan Unilever Limited – Hamam, powered by The Hindu Group seeks to plant one lakh neem trees across 10 coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, including Cuddalore and Villupuram.

According to a press release, from April 14 to June 5 (which is World Environment Day), the Hamam Green Puthaandu – Neem tree sapling planting activity will be undertaken in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Villupuram, Tirunelveli, Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Nagapattinam and Thiruvarur.

Top government officials, environmentalists, naturalists and tree lovers will attend the event in their respective districts

In Villupuram, the drive would be launched by SowmyaRamadoss of PasumaiThayagam and Anusuya, ADSP, Villupuram at ESI Engineering College, Villupuram-Chennai Trunk Road at 10 a.m.

The activity in Cuddalore would be inaugurated by Cuddalore District Collector T.P. Rajesh at St Josephs Higher secondary school, Manjakuppam at 10 a.m.
