Correspondent :
BHOPAL: As part of its campaign to protect the ‘Gaumata’, the state government has decided to ban polythene in the state. The use of polythene carry bags would become illegal from May 1. The decision was taken by the state cabinet on Tuesday with a view to protecting cows from the diseases they acquire due to eating polythene.

Minister for public relations and spokesperson for the government Narottam Mishra told media persons that on occasions, cows even died after consuming polythene.

He said the sale and use of other plastic products would continue to be legal. Mishra said NGT had issued orders to this effect. The government had decided to issue an ordinance to impose the ban. After it is signed by the governor, it would be forwarded to the president through the Union home ministry for his approval.

Mishra said the government would do everything needed to implement the ban strictly.

The cabinet also decided that a bone marrow transplant centre would be established at MY Hospital in Indore. Two doctors have already been trained in New York in bone marrow transplant and more would be sent abroad for training. Doctors from foreign countries would also be conducting surgeries at the Centre. He said that the chief minister Shivraj Singh had held discussions with doctors in New York during his visit to the American city. The centre was the outcome of those discussions
