Madhya Pradesh Government on Tuesday decided to ban plastic/polythene carry bags across the State from May 1 saying that its consumption has resulted in large number of cow deaths.
“The State Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has accorded nod to the proposal of imposing the ban on plastic/polythene bags across the State from May 1,” State Public Relations Department Minister Narottam Mishra told reporters here after the meeting.
“The cows eat polythene/plastic bags, which lead to their death. Banning of polythene use will protect their lives. Besides, the plastic/polythene bags are also harmful for the environment,” he said.
When asked about how this ban would be implemented, Mishra said other modalities of this ban are yet to be chalked out. However, this ban would not be meant for bucket and other plastic materials. It is restricted to plastic carry bags only, he clarified.
The Cabinet took the decision in compliance with the order of the National Green Tribunal. It also gave its node to Madhya Pradesh Bio Indestructible Waste (Control) Amendment Bill-2017 for complete ban on use of plastic carry bags in the State.
Besides, approval has been given for Mukhyamantyri Young Professional for Development Programme. The main aim of the programme is to utilise the energy, capacity and vision of the youths in the development of the State and to provide an opportunity for them to develop close understanding for Government workings. Under the programme, 51 Mukhyamantri Research Associates and 6 Programme Coordinator will be selected.
The Cabinet has given an approval to start a new scheme in the name of MukhyamantriGraminPayjal Yojana costing Rs 900 crore under the Public Health Engineering Department. Under the scheme, works to provide potable water through hand pumps in 10,000 rural settlements and Nal-Jal (Tap Water) schemes will be carried out in 5,000 rural settlements in the year 2017-18. Also source conservation of Nal-Jal schemes besides maintenance of hand pumps installed in the rural areas and maintenance of group potable water schemes will be undertaken in this scheme.
The cabinet has decided to start the first phase of DeendayalAntyodayaRasoi Yojana in the urban areas of 49 district headquarters of the State.
Keeping in view of the health services in the State, the Cabinet has given a sanction to increase MBBS seats from 150 to 250 in Gandhi Medical College-Bhopal and Rs 119.68 for construction, equipments, furniture and vehicle besides creation of total 555 posts and its fulfillment.
The Cabinet has given an administrative sanction of Rs 70.98 crore, Rs 69 crore, Rs 70.98 crore, Rs 69 crore, Rs 68.99 crore and Rs 69.04 crore towards purchase of equipments, furniture, vehicles and books for establishment of new medical colleges in Vidisha, Shahdol, Ratlam , Khandwa, Chhindwara and Shivpuri respectively. Also administrative sanction has been given for posts’ creation and to take services from outsourcing in these colleges.
Decision to establish bone marrow transplant centre in MY Hospital, Indore has been taken in the Cabinet meeting. The Cabinet has granted approval for amendments in process followed to issue prosecution sanction against Government officers-employees.
