INDORE: As it seems, tigress Jamuna's jumping out of her enclosure has unexpectedly led to a jump in ticket sales at Indore zoo. The footfall at the zoo on Tuesday was higher than average, zoo officials claimed.
Kamla Nehru zoo records suggested that 5,200 people visited the zoo on Tuesday. While the zoo remains closed on Mondays, the officials were expecting that footfall to be less as people seemed to be taken a back by the escape.
"The average footfall in normal days is around 4,000. The number today was more than five thousand. This shows that people still have faith in the security measures of the zoo. The rare incident did not make the public insecure," said education officer and curator of Indore zoo Nihar Parulekar.
The visitors, mostly children, were seen enjoying in the zoo as usual days.
"I have been coming to zoo from a long time. In so many years, I had never heard about such incident. If one such incident took place, this does not mean that we would stop coming to the zoo," said Shikha, a college student.
Additional security measures were also taken by zoo officials to restrict people from carrying things that could affect animals' behaviour.
"We are allowing only necessary items like medicines and milk for children. Other things like toys and balls are not allowed inside," Parulekar said.
People were also seen roaming around the enclosure from which Jamuna jumped out on Sunday. Most of them were heard discussing about the incident and how it could have taken place.
However, Jamuna was not kept in the enclosure for display. Officials said that they were adding some safety features to the enclosure and animals would be kept in display only after the work gets completed.
Tigress Jamuna jumped out of her cage on Sunday evening, creating panic on the zoo premises. Commissioner of IMC has ordered an enquiry and report would be submitted in 10 days.
