BENGALURU: Sighted by villagers sometime at the end of August, Sidda, an injured elephant, continues to limp and wander in pain at the Manchanabele dam area (40km from the city), off Magadi Road.
While travelling towards Bannerghatta National Park, the elephant reportedly fell into a ditch at Ramohalli village in Bengaluru south taluk, injuring his leg, stomach and shoulder.
A group of forest officials and villagers tried to help the jumbo by giving it medicine-laced bananas.Subsequently, the elephant was treated by a team of veterinarians from Nagarahole Tiger Reserve and Bannerghatta Biological Park.
AL Dalesh, range forest officer, Magadi, said though Sidda is stable, his wounds are still swollen.Sidda was sighted early Monday morning in the backwaters of Manchanabele and is still being administered food and medicines by the officials.
While villagers were hoping the elephant would be captured and treated, BJ Hosmath, principal chief conservator of forests (wildlife) said what happened was 'natural'. "People are unnecessarily getting excited about the incident.Things like this happen all the time in the wild and we have done everything we could," said Hosmath.
