Medical waste litters roads around Katju Hospital
Correspondent :
BHOPAL : The state government has drawn several guidelines for private clinics and nursing homes for proper disposal of medical waste but hardly pays attention to its own hospitals where heaps of medical waste litter the area around the premises.

Medicine waste is not dumped in the container but thrown around it at Katju Hospital. Stray animals scatter it all over road. Even there are chances of stray animals consuming the thrown away medicines while it should be dumped in proper way.

However, there are norms to dump medical waste after segregating it from general garbage. But it is not followed at the hospital.

Tere should be proper disposal of medical waste. BMC should regularly remove it and people should also dump it in container properly. But here in the state capital even people throw it around the containers. BMC has no timing of cleaning and lifting the garbage. Stray animals which rule the roost, scatter it all over the road.” Sanjay Jain, 45, businessman.

BMC administration should focus on regular sanitation for proper hygiene in the ambience. The dengue and chikungunya menace is spreading tentacles in the city. Concerning agency should ensure daily and regular removal of the dumped garbage. There must be regular sanitation at the commercial premises but it is not done. We hire the sanitary workers at personal level for it.”

Ajay Saxena, 30, electronic shop owner.

In this area, there are many hospitals and they also dump their waste at the same dumping site. There must be banned on it. BMC administration should be attentive in this matter otherwise, it will be put in dock for all laxities. Premise of commercial complex should be daily and timely cleaned. It is very difficult to run the business as dust causes problem with no system for cleaning the premises daily and regularly.” PurshotamPawar, 30, businessman.
