World Environment Day: Belagavi residents join hands to spread green cover

Belagavi: On the World Environment Day, Team Green Saviours of Belagavi in association with Swami Vivekananda Yuvak Sangh, planted about 200 saplings at Shri Shivaji High School and a grazing land in Kadoli village on Sunday. Renowned activist and environmentalist Shivaji Kaganikar launched the drive.

About 130 members of Green Saviours and 50 members of Swami Vivekananda Yuvak Sangh took part in the drive. The event was followed by a sumptuous traditional meal.

Several organizations, seers of various mutt and government agencies also planted hundreds of saplings on the day. The department of forest planted saplings at Hindwadi graveyard. District minister Satish Jarakiholi said that the best environment-friendly graveyard award will be instituted. Deputy conservator of forest B V Patil and range forest officer Sunitha Nimbaragi were present.

Seer Siddaram of Naganur Mutt planted saplings at Agasaga High School, Belagavi taluk. Ashraya Foundation planted 25 saplings at the Government Kannada Higher Primary School in Kanabargi on Saturday.
