'Conserve water, trees to save environment' |

KANPUR: The World Environment Day was celebrated in Kanpur zoo on Sunday. Several activities like a plantation drive, and a seminar on importance of trees were held. The programmes had been organised to make people aware about the importance of trees and need to conserve them for Earth's survival.
A seminar was organised on this occasion at an auditorium in the zoo. The director of Kanpur zoo said that the theme of environment day this year is 'fight against illegal wildlife trade'. A large number of people, including teachers and schoolchildren were present.
Rajesh Kumar Bajpai from WWF said that water is important for sustaining life. He said that efforts should be made to prevent pollution in the rivers. A WWF short film on the need of conservation of wild animals was also screened. The film depicted efforts to conserve wild animals in and around Yamuna.
Assistant conservator of forest, Kewal Prasad said that there is a need to conserve nature. He said that the nature is a gift from god and that it should be saved.
