World Environment Day: Mangalore Bicycle Club members use pedal power to get the green message across
Correspondent : TNN
Mangaluru: Forty members of Mangalore Bicycle Club (MBC) celebrated World Environment Day by pedaling 100km from Mangaluru to Udyavara and returned back to city. Out of the 40 members, 20 were doing their first 100-km ride and contributing their bit to the environment.

Despite humid weather, riders enjoyed their ride to the fullest believing in the cause they were pedaling for.

The message was loud and clea r and all members pledged to continue their support to environment-friendly causes in every step they take. Members of Mangalore Bicycle Club have been observing Car Free Day every second Saturday of the month since October 2015. At Katpadi, members of MBC met Udupi Cycling Club members during their morning ride.

Once in Udupi, management of St Francis Xavier Church invited MBC members to visit their newly built church.

The church was recently built adopting environment-friendly methods like rainwater harvesting and efficient usage of electricity. The beautiful Jesus statue on the dome of the church is sculpted by Ashwath Rasquinha, who incidentally is a member of MBC, which came as a surprise to all the members, said Ganesh Nayak, founder of MBC, adding it left them with a sense of pride.
