Patna: Several programmes were organised by different organisations here to mark World Environment Day on Sunday.
Rajeev Nagar-headquartered Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Bihar sector, organised a sapling plantation programme on its premises. ADG, CRPF, Shailendra Kumar, DIG Niraj Kumar and commandant Karuna Rai were present at the event. The ADG asked the jawans to plant at least one sapling every year. Speaking on the occasion, Anita Kumari, president of CRPF Women Welfare Association, said a massive plantation drive was the need of the hour to counter increasing level of pollution.
Bihar State Pollution Control Board also organised a programme to mark the day. Dolphin man R K Sinha expressed concern over man-made environmental destruction and extinction of endangered animals. He called for protection of environment for the generations to come.
State Congress functionaries Ajay Kumar, Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Md Wasi and others gathered at Pramod Park in Kankarbagh locality for a plantation drive and took ceremonial oath for the conservation of environment.
Various non-governmental organisations also organised events to mark the day. Abhilasha Jyoti Foundation organised a painting competition on 'Fight against the illegal trade in wildlife' at Pasahi village in Phulwarisharif. Around 50 saplings were planted in the area.
Sir Ganesh Dutt Vichar Manch organised a symposium on 'People's participation in maintaining environmental balance'. Secretary of the Manch Ajay Kumar highlighted the problems arising out of depleting green cover and called for massive involvement of people.
Jeevan Aradhya, a city-based NGO, organised a plantation drive at Shahid Kishore Kunal Memorial Park, Kankarbagh. More than 60 saplings of different species were planted.
Hame Bhi Padhao, another city-based NGO, organised an environmental awareness campaign. Dr Kumar Anunodaya highlighted the ill-effects of unsolicited human interference with biodiversity.
Bihar State Productivity Council and Energy International also organised separate events to mark the day.
More than 80 saplings of medicinal and fruit plants were planted on the premises of Patna airport by members of Kalyanmyee, an association formed by the wives of airport officers.
