Citizens enter green state of mind
Correspondent : TNN
Ahmedabad: A number of city-based organizations celebrated the World Environment Day on Sunday with activities ranging from organizing half marathon to tree plantation drive.

Hundreds of children visited Centre for Environment Education (CEE) and participated in activities such as games with green messages, pottery workshop, tattoo and face painting and so on. Shikha Agarwal, a class VI student and one of the visitors, said that she spotted a number of new tree species on the campus and also understood how fragile the ecological balance of food pyramid is through games. "Even insects are important and are important markers of air quality. I have taken pledge not to litter or waste food," she said.

The visitors at Vikram A Sarabhai Community Science Centre were presented with saplings to plant as the receivers also took pledge to nurture the trees and help city in becoming greener. Science City had organized a seminar on climate change and sustainable development where students and teachers from across the state had participated. Gujarat Energy Development Agency had demonstrated a mobile van on energy conservation. Other activities that took place on the day included 8.5 km long 'Go Green Marathon' that started from GMDC Ground on Sunday morning and live performance by Drum Circle, a city-based group, at Parimal Garden in the evening explaining the connection between nature and music.
