World Environment Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and tree plantation drives were held across the city. The demand for saplings at many nurseries had increased over the past few days. Many people and institutions had made advance bookings for the saplings.

Many Bengalureans, especially children, were seen adding to the green cover by planting saplings.

Whitefield Rising, Rotary Bangalore- IT Corridor and Force GW joined hands with Forest Department to plant saplings in Mandur reserve forest. As many as 1,000 saplings were planted.

Many government departments organised plantation drives. Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) pourakarmikas and volunteers planted saplings at Ramagondanahalli Government School in ward number 84. A tree plantation drive was also held in Ward number 4 in Allalasandra lake area where students of Seshadripuram college, Poorna Pragna, MES and Government PU College joined hands with BBMP to plant saplings. As many as 1,000 saplings were also planted at Jayanagar constituency under the scheme Hasiru Madilu.

Apart from talks, lectures and discussions, cultural programmes and dramas were also held to spread the message of conservation of environment.

A Green Rally, organised Adamya Chetana, was also held from Lalbagh West Gate to Basavanagudi High School. The rally passed through 15 locations and at each location 40- 50 saplings were planted by participants. Vallabhanagara Nivasigala Sangha also distributed free saplings to school students.

Rotary-Bengaluru Junction launched their tree plantation project- Grow tree by Rotary-at Doddaballapur Industrial Area on Sunday.

Students from Greenwood High School organised community cleaning drive in their neighbourhood. The waste collected was then treated with fertiliser powder, and once the waste turns into compost, the children will use it to grow vegetables.

Students from Government Higher Primary School in Kurubarahalli exhibited their waste-to-wealth-to-greenery models at the Kanteerava Stadium.
