World Environment Day: MRPL takes up massive plantation drive

Mangaluru: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) carried out mass tree plantation on the occasion of World Environment Day at its refinery premises at Kuthethur near here on Sunday.

H Kumar, managing director, MRPL, initiated the campaign with the cooperation of Karnataka Forest department in which MRPL employees and members from surrounding villages, members of Jokatte and Bala gram panchayat took part in large numbers.

B S Hussain, president, Jokatte Nagarika Horata Samiti, Priscilla, president, Jokatte gram panchayat, Shamsuddin, vice-president, Jokatte GP, Adam, president Bala GP, and other members of panchayat, members of Nagarika Horata Samiti participated in the tree plantation programme. Hussain said it is imperative for all concerned to join hands in this regard.

M Venkatesh, director, refinery, K S Koppalkar, group general manager (in-charge refinery), other senior officers and employees of MRPL planted hundreds of saplings endemic to the Western Ghat provided by department of forest.

Ravi Kumar from Karnataka Forest department was also present. MRPL is on a conscious mission to increase the green cover in and around the refinery and has plans to set up additional green buffer zone to meet its commitment to environment.
