A total of 139 children participated in a drawing competition organised by the District Science Centre here on Sunday in connection with ‘World Environment Day’.
The competition was conducted in three categories viz. ‘Bird by fingerprint’ for 3rd to 5th standard students, ‘Animal by dry leaves’ for 6th to 8th standard students and ‘Drawing on Wildlife’ for 9th to 11th standard students.
Students of various schools from different parts of the district participated in the competition.
A fancy dress competition on ‘Wild animal’ for Junior (3rd to 5th standard) and senior (6th to 8th standard) categories will be organised on June 7.
A school can send only one team, comprising maximum 2 participants, in each category.
On the last day of the celebrations to be held on June 9, A. Venkatesh, Chief Conservator of Forest, Kalakkad – Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve, Tirunelveli, will speak on ‘Go wild for life’ at 10 a.m.
The lecture will be followed by an awareness drama and prize distribution function.
