Plantation drive marks World Environment Day

Saplings were planted by various organisations to mark the World Environment Day on Sunday.

A total of 1,000 saplings were distributed by Hobel Bellows Co., manufacturer, supplier and exporter of metallic bellows at Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone at Duvvada here.

Of these 1,000 saplings, 100 each were provided by Biomax and Lions Club of Gajuwaka. The saplings were planted in VSEZ by the workers of SMC House Keeping under the supervision of Hobel Bellows representatives from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This apart, an additional 300 saplings were planted outside VSEZ under the auspices of MLA PallaSrinivasa Rao. These saplings were provided by the Lions Club of Gajuwaka and Best Western Ramachandra Hotels of Gajuwaka.

VSEZ Development Commissioner Shobana K.S. Rao and Joint Development Commissioner Trinadh Kumar participated in the programme.

Railways: Over 500 saplings, including 200 bio-diesel plants, were planted in the Railway colonies at Thatichetlapalem and Marripalem by the officers and employees of Waltair Division of East Coast Railway under the leadership of Divisional Railway Manager Chandralekha Mukherjee, Additional DRM Ajay Arora and Senior Divisional Engineer (HQ) J. NageshBabu.

Waltair Division had initiated measures like waste water recycling plant at the New Coaching Complex, where the recycled water is used for washing and horticulture, use of LED lights to reduce power consumption and bio-toilets in trains to promote the green initiative. During the recently concluded ‘Rail HamsafarSaptaah’ more than 1000 saplings were planted over the Division.

MPUP School, Yendada: Headmaster Gotteti Ravi impressed upon the students on the need to safeguard the environment around us. The actions of human beings in the modern world directly impact the whole ecosystem.

Members of DWCRA groups took out a rally in the village to encourage people to plant more trees and reduce use of plastics for the protection of the environment.

BVF campaign

Advocating tree plantation as an integral part of conserving environment, Bala Vikas Foundation celebrated the World Environment Day by taking up a plantation drive at its Bridge School on Sunday. Its founder NaravaPrakasa Rao said one can contribute to the green campaign by taking care of his or her immediate surroundings and keeping the environs clean. In the end, cloth bags were distributed to the students. Members of the foundation Nookaraju, Lakshmi, and Bindu took part in the programme..
