NGO rescues exotic tortoises from east Delhi's Indraprasthapark
Correspondent : TNN
New Delhi: Two Indian star tortoises were rescued by an NGO from east Delhi's Indraprastha Park, on Wednesday.

They were discovered when a local resident found crows gathering around them, and placed a call to Wildlife SOS.

Wildlife experts say this particular species is quite popular in the exotic pet trade, despite being a protected species under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.

"We believe that the tortoises were abandoned in the park. They are often kept as `exotic' pets or for spiritual purposes," said KartickSatyanarayan, co-founder of Wildlife SOS.
