Students call for environment protection

Patna: A painting competition was organised on the occasion of 'International Day for Biological Diversity' by Bihar State Pollution Control Board (BSPCB) at Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park here on Sunday.

BSPCB public relations officer Virendra Kumar said the competition was aimed at creating awareness among children regarding environment protection.

Altogether 805 children from 225 different schools of 16 districts participated in the event. The competition was divided into five different categories. For students of Class I and II, the topic for painting was valley of flowers and for Class III and IV, it was bad impact of plastic on the environment and use of paper, jute or cloth bags.

Class V and VI students painted on protection and conservation of water. The topic for Class VII and VIII students was 'Increasing temperature of the earth...protect environment', and for Class IX and X it was biodiversity and conservation of environment.

Kumar said top three paintings from each category would be selected and winners would be awarded on June 5 on the occasion of World Environment Day.
